Custom Design FAQs

How much does a custom design cost?
Custom design fees depend on the complexity and size of the home. We provide a fixed-price design quote upfront after reviewing your initial brief, so there are no surprises. The design fee is separate from the kit price.
Can I modify one of your existing plans instead?
Absolutely. Many customers start with one of our 50+ existing designs and modify it - adjusting room sizes, adding or removing rooms, changing the facade, or flipping the layout. Minor modifications are often simpler and more cost-effective than a full custom design.
Do I need to have land before starting?
Not necessarily. We can begin concept designs based on general requirements. However, to finalise engineering and ensure the design suits your specific site, we will need your land details including a survey, contour plan, and any council overlays.
What areas do you deliver to?
We deliver kit homes Australia-wide and internationally. Freight costs vary depending on your location. Remote and regional areas are no problem - we regularly ship to rural and coastal sites across every state and territory.
Can I owner-build with a custom design?
Yes. Our kit homes are specifically designed for owner-builders. The steel frame system is straightforward to assemble, and we provide detailed documentation. Check our Owner Builder Guides section for step-by-step resources.
How long does the full process take?
From initial brief to delivery, a custom design typically takes 8-12 weeks. This includes 2-3 weeks for concept design, time for revisions, 2-3 weeks for engineering, and 4-6 weeks for manufacturing. Timelines can vary based on design complexity.
